Monday 7th July saw the Tour De France come through the beautiful town of Saffron Walden.
With my wife being a Tour Maker, and getting up at 4.30 to head off to Cambridge to take up her position,i decided i would get into the town early and soak up the atmosphere on a lovely sunny morning.
It didnt take me long to realise the best position for getting some great shots of the Peloton coming into Saffron was right outside the Eight Bells. Standing there from 7.30 in the morning gave me a great insight into the build up and enormous preparation that goes into an event like the tour.
I would like also to thank Steve and Petra from Petrus and Hussan from The Restaurant, for their hospitality given to my sister inlaw who was looking after Encore for the day, apparently the Pimms and nibles were to die for, shame i was taking photo’s all day!!
As it got closer to the Peloton coming down Windmill Hill, word went round that 2 riders had broken out of the pack, and some 4mins in front. When they came into view they were surrounded by tour vehicles but with a bit of clever maneuvering, i managed to get a couple of great frames of the 2 of them, followed later by Team Sky and rest.
What a great day id had, capturing some 300 images, here are just a couple, more to follow in the gallery section
